BRIGADES - "True Blue" ALBUM REVIEW

"Finish your chardonnay. I am down I am bleeding out."

The postcore/pop-punk quintet from Spartanburg, SC known as Brigades released their forthcoming EP TRUE BLUE this past July.

The album is the band's first release since their 2015 LP "Indefinite" released via Pure Noise Records which gained attention from the likes of Alt. Press Magazine, & Rocksound. TRUE BLUE is the first album they're doing things on their own. First self-demoing the EP, then working with legendary producer Machine (Lamb of God, Fall Out Boy, CLUTCH) in Asbury Park, NJ.

Back with fresh, new material, the guys dish out seven tracks of pure drop D gold. Every track is just as heavy and, hard-hitting as the last full of tight, punchy drums & bass, mouths full of guitar licks, and emotional, deep lyrics spread across sing-a-longs, 2-3 part vocal harmonies and chanting gang vocals.

The band's latest single CHINA DOLL, a follow-up to their first single TURMOIL is a sick double-bass drum filled, high range vocal pop-punk tune reminiscent of modern Four Year Strong meets The Story So Far.

BRIGADES - CHINA DOLL

The rest of the album is modern pop-punk at its best. Tunes like SUCKER are reminiscent of Neck Deep with a catchy as hell repeating chorus. Where their former single TURMOIL is a heavy mixture of metal and pop-punk influence featuring breakdown-esque drumming & strumming, chanting gang vocals similar to older A Day to Remember meets Neck Deep.

CALLIGRAPHY is a good "car-ride jam tune" that breaks away from the band's traditional writing style featuring an acoustic guitar and slower tempo. The closing track to the album FINISH YOUR CHARDONNAY follows suit to CALLIGRAPHY and is a fitting "ride off into the sunset" "closing credits" tune which tells a pretty heartfelt story through it's driving lyrics.
