Youth Fountain "Together In Lonesome" ALBUM REVIEW
Emo/pop-punk project Youth Fountain, the brainchild of guitarist/vocalist Tyler Zanon, has released its latest new album Together In Lonesome. Out today via Pure Noise Records, Together In Lonesome features recent singles "Identical Days", “Roses In My Backpack”, and “Fallen Short”. Project founder Tyler Zanon had this to say about the album: “This record lyrically touches on the feelings of essentially losing everything that ever mattered to me and going through the motions, twists and turns of what life has thrown at me over the past decade of my life,” Zanon shares. “Mostly overcoming the loss of a significant other and overwhelming emotions of never feeling like I could be enough for anyone or anything I pursue. With this record being the project's third release I knew I wanted to try and do something super special as a follow-up to the sophomore album. I would say this record is a pretty dark love story album and I hope it means a lot to all the fans of Youth Fountain.”
Together In Lonesome starts off very triumphantly with a 26-second track entitled What Tomorrow Brings that's almost like the opening credits to the album. From there the entire record gives me new school pop-punk feels combined with definite Drive Thru Records pop-punk vibes from the early 2000's. The whole record is chalked full of nostalgic bits that leave old-school pop-punk fans like myself extremely happy with something new yet familiar with New Found Glory and The Starting Line vibes while also combining that new hard-hitting pop-punk sound with Neck Deep and especially when it comes to Tyler Zanon's vocals some The Story So Far vibes and even dabbling into the almost experimental and progressive with later tracks like A Few Notes For Orpheus giving off vibes of bands like Tiny Moving Parts with the almost "indie math rock" sound.
Together In Lonesome to me sounds like a love letter to pop-punk and emo combining the biggest and best elements of the genres into one amazing 12-track record. Tracks like Fallen Short and Haiku take me back to the Vans Warped Tour, 2 in the afternoon, hot as shit walking across a parking lot and hearing an unknown band in the distance, walking up to the stage they're playing on and immediately falling in love with every track even though you've never heard one song by the band before.
Tracks like Reqium and Breakneck Pace are straight-up in-your-face pop-punk bangers that feel like early 2000's pop-punk with a fresh coat of paint. Vintage yet new. Tracks Patterns, Clarity, and Roses In My Backpack have a full-fledged modern emo/pop-punk sound with melodies and rhythms reminiscent of an amalgam of today's bands yet I can't quite put my finger on who or what the songs are reminiscent of which is the best part of this record, it's familiar yet oh so new. Closing out the album are two tracks Breakneck Pace and Together in Lonesome, the latter of the two are one of my favorite tracks of the record. The duality of the songs is great, Breakneck Pace is a bat out of hell while rounding out the record with the title track of the album is very acoustic guitar-driven almost giving off some straight-up arena rock Goo Goo Dolls vibes.
Youth Fountain's Together in Lonesome is a must-listen for any, and I mean absolutely mean any, pop-punk and emo rock fan out there. If you're new to the genre or an elder emo like myself, I can guarantee you'll find at least one track on this album that will tickle your fancy.
